Published

Two former prime ministers will now vie to become the next leader of the Central African Republic later this month, as presidential election will now need a run-off to determine the winner.

The run-off is scheduled for January 31.

After initial results of the elections were released, no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote during the first round held late last month, according to the final provisional results released by the National Election Authority on Thursday.

Anicet-Georges Dologuele came first with 23.8 percent of the vote, followed by another ex-prime minister, Faustin Archange Touadera with 19.4 percent.

CAR citizens voted on December 30 in much-delayed national elections that was hoped would bring stability after two years of ruinous communal violence.
