Sanchez nets in twice as Arsenal defeat Hull 2-0

Alexis Sanchez netted in two goals on Saturday as Arsenal made their first Premier League win in three games over Hull City at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners got ahead in the game on 34 minutes with a controversial goal when the ball came off forward Sanchez’s hand and ended up in the net.

“The ref told us he didn’t give it because he wasn’t 100% sure. Not many referees can admit they’re wrong, so it’s good when he does though it doesn’t make things better,” Hull defender Andrew Robertson said on the handball controversy.

However, Hull could have gotten something from the game judging from their resilience, but it was only in stoppage time that their brave effort was snuffed out, when Alexis Sanchez slot the penalty – a reward for his work in earning it. The Chilean provided the cross for Lucas Perez to head against Clucas’s arm, which led to a red card for Clucas and a penalty in favour of the home team.

“2-0 is not the story of the game. We didn’t start well in the first half. We lost some balls in important zones. They scored one goal handball. We make mistakes, sometimes the referee make mistakes too. We don’t have a good day but that is football,” Hull Boss Marco Silva said after the game.

Arsenal had lost back-to-back their last two Premier League games against Watford and Chelsea – a situation that led to Gunners’ fans calling for Manager Arsene Wenger’s exit from the club. But Saturday’s win could serve as a consolation.

“I felt we were resilient, focused. It was not easy against a good side. There was an edgy atmosphere but as a player you have to cope with that,” Wenger said after his side’s victory.

Arsenal will face Bayern Munich next Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League, while Hull will host Burnley FC on Saturday in their week 26 EPL fixture.
