SANCTIONS: Iran gives conditions to stage talks with US

The President of Iran Hassan Rouhani has stressed that his country will not stage talks with the United States while it is still under sanction.

Rouhani made the comments in a televised interview on Monday evening, just hours before the first round of unilateral “snap back” US sanctions take effect on Tuesday.

He said Iran cannot enter talks with the “untrustworthy” administration of Donald Trump as long as Tehran is under the shadow of economic sanctions.

“You cannot expect to talk to a person after you stab him and leave the knife in his body,” Rouhani, speaking in Persian, told IRIB state television.

Rouhani’s comments are coming days after Trump informed that he is willing to meet with Rouhani over Tehran’s oil ban without preconditions.

Trump made that much known in a Twitter post on Monday during a joint White House news conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
