Security guard guns down 24-yr-old man for riding on ponmo

Pandemonium struck in the Ijebu Igbo area of Ogun State when a security guard gunned down a 24-year-old identified as Ayodeji Adesegun, aka Solution for ridding on cow hide (ponmo).

Reports say that the victim (a generator repairer) had gone to the area to seek payment for a debt owed him by a woman in the Odose Badejo area who produced cow hide.

According to reports, the victim had parked his motorcycle just in front of where the woman had spread some of her wares and he was about to leave the area when he was accosted by the guard who accused him on riding on the cow hide.

An argument reportedly ensued between the pair with the guard shooting the victim to death thereby triggering the rise of an angry mob which moved to snuff life out of the guard for his unjust action.

A witness who declined to be mentioned said the mob almost killed the guard who shot the victim in the chest.

“The man was a generator repairer and he had a motorcycle. The woman who sells the ponmo owed him some money and he went to collect the money. He parked his motorcycle by the roadside where the woman put her wares.

“He was about leaving when the security man accused him of riding his motorcycle on the ponmo. There was an argument between them and the repairer was shot in the chest.

However, the local security guard was said to have escaped the scene of the incident but the cow hide seller, and the father of the security guard were arrested with the duo allegedly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran.

The incident was confirmed by Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state Police Public Relations Officer who said; “The man that fired the shot is a local security guard. He just came out from nowhere and fired at the deceased, who was a member of the Odua People’s Congress. Nobody is ready to tell us what exactly led to the shooting.

“The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the SCIID should take over the case and ensure the arrest of the suspect.”
