Show some respect, US tells Pilipino's President Duterte
The United States, through its State Department has called on Pilipino President Rodrigo Duterte to show some respect in his dealings in the future after he raised worries about the future of the key alliance between the US and Philippines by calling President Barack Obama a “son of a bitch.”
The US State Department stressed the need for ties with the Philippines to be based on mutual respect, while also playing down the impact of Duterte’s action saying they did not expect any serious damage to ties at a time of high tensions over China’s extensive territorial claims in Asia.
“Words matter and we want to see an atmosphere that is cordial and open to strong cooperation,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner told a regular news briefing in Washington.
