SOKOTO: Protesting women ask INEC to release governorship election results

A group of women led by three serving commissioners in Sokoto State have staged a peaceful protest calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to release the results of the governorship election staged in the state on March 9.

According to the protesting women led by Prof A’isha Madawaki, Dr Kulu Abubakar and Mrs Kulu Sifawa, “it is unacceptable for INEC to declare the governorship elections in the state inconclusive”.

The protesting women also called on INEC to declare Governor Aminu Tambuwal, as the winner of the governorship polls with Sifawa, who is the Commissioner for Women Affairs, noting that Tambuwal was duly elected by majority of voters in the state.

Recall that Governor Tambuwal had earlier questioned the decision by INEC to declare the election inconclusive, claiming he had won it and should be declared the winner.
