South African King begins jail term

King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo of South Africa has begun his 12-year prison term for arson, assault and kidnapping.
The convicted monarch- a nephew of the late Nelson Mandela reported to prison after all his legal attempts to overturn his conviction failed.

The case against King Dalindyebo, 51, who ascended to the throne in 1989 was related to a dispute he had with some of his subjects about two decades ago.

The bearded monarch who hails from the Thembu clan, to which Mr Mandela, South Africa’s first black president belonged, now holds the unenviable record as the first monarch to be jailed in South Africa since minority rule ended in 1994.
