Threats of arrest won’t stop me from criticising evils in Buhari’s govt –Fani-Kayode

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has vowed not to stop exercising his right to speak out against what he considers unjust and evil in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

He was reacting to an alleged plot by the Department of State Security (DSS) to arrest him over his comments on the heels of the killings in Benue by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Some of the comments by Fani-Kayode included his tweet where he said that lives of Buhari’s cow is more important than the lives of Nigerians. He had also accused Buhari of “openly encouraging and protecting” Fulani herdsmen killing Nigerians.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Media Director, Deji Adeyanju, had in a tweet on Tuesday, alleged, “So the DG of DSS asked his men to arrest @realFFK this morning over herdsmen comment. Why are these guys so unbelievable. The madness of 2019 has really started.”

And responding to the purported arrest, Fani-Kayode tweeted Tuesday morning, that “Freedom of speech is a fundamental requirement in a democracy and every citizen has the inalienable right to exercise it. I do not advocate violence in any shape or form and neither do I believe in any form of subversion of the state.

“I do however believe in the right to vigorously criticise govt. and keep them on their toes and to speak out against that which I consider to be unjust and evil.

“This is not just a right but a duty that all true leaders must take seriously and a divine mandate. Despite the threats of arrest and harm from the Buhari govt. I shall not be intimidated or silenced. The battle belongs to the Lord!”

The former minister had earlier tweeted, “Amazed about how shallow and uninformed @CNN ‘s report on the Fulani herdsmen was this morning. To reduce cases of ethnic cleansing and genocide to mere ‘clashes between farmers and herdsmen’ and to say that the matter is only about land is dishonest and disingenious. Fake news!

“The idea of setting up cattle colonies as part of a wider Fulani colonisation agenda presents an existential threat to Nigeria. The Fulani are determined to either bind us all in chains of bondage and slavery or kill every single one of us and wipe us off the face of the earth.”
