Turning Biafra into a gold dust

Published

By Aik Amaechi . . . .

The recent arrest of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu by the Nigerian Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the recent attention it has elicited world wide has brought the subject of Biafran independence further to the front Burner.

In my tranquil moments I have continued to review the actions of many organisations and individuals claiming to champion this objective and the more I do the more I am thrown deeper into a nadir. I ask myself, why do they pretend to be the more aficionados in this course than the rest of us when they know they are deceiving the people for their own self aggrandizement.

They are turning the struggle into a scam. These men who previously looked like hobbledehoys . are now “chiefs” in Agbada and Cashmere suits living in fortresses. Thanks to the struggle for the secession of Biafra and her peoples. Leader of the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Uwazurike has so enriched himself in the pretext that he is now more of a celebrity than a freedom fighter.

Also, is Kanu who has emerged with a splinter from MASSOB known as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). They know that Biafra is like opium to Ndigbo and that the mention of it anywhere will elicit support and sympathy. Kanu needed the attention to attract more material support internationally for his personal gains.

If not for these selfish interests Uwazurike and Kanu should come and tell Ndigbo the reason for their conflict which led to the alleged expulsion of Kanu from MASSOB. Do these two gentlemen want to tell me that they do not know how Biafra could be attained in a civilized setting and democracy.

Scotland is agitating for the same thing from the United Kingdom and they are genuinely carrying it out through their legislators and referendum. Where are the Igbo legislators in the National Assembly. If these “freedom fighters” are real why are they not collaborating with the legislators?

I want to call on well-meaning people and the international community not to support or recognize these so called agitators because they are not working in the interest of Biafrans. Igbo ndi nwe m, ya gazie.
