Unknown assailants gun down 2 policemen, driver, injure others in Kaduna attack

A tragic scene played out at the International Beers and Beverages Industries, Trikaniya, along Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bye-Pass, in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, when unknown assailants shot and killed two policemen, a driver and injured others.

Reports say the two policemen who were shot and killed by the gunmen were attached to the Kaduna State Police Command while the other injured officers numbering up to five are being treated at an undisclosed hospital.

A witness who declined to be mentioned said the incident happened, “around 5am today (Wednesday). The gunmen dressed in kaftan came down from a truck and went to the IBBI gate.

“They started shooting and people who were going for Islamic morning prayer ran for dear lives.”

The incident was confirmed by Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Yakubu Abubakar who noted that the policemen’s guns were not stolen by the attackers “due to the repelling firepower of our men.”

He said; “After a fierce gun duel, two of our men and a civilian driver were killed. Five other policemen sustained gun injuries and are receiving treatment at a hospital in Kaduna.

“No arm was taken away by the attackers due to the repelling gun power of our men. Some of the attackers escaped with gun injuries.

“Detectives have been mobilised to track down the fleeing killers and bring them to justice,”‎he added.
