Unlike Melaye, Shehu Sani honours police invitation, gets bail

Senator Shehu Sani on Monday honoured the invitation of the Kaduna State Police command over a murder case the police claimed he is a person of interest in.

The senator, who represents Kaduna Central at the Senate said that he honoured the invitation in the morning on Monday, wrote a statement and was subsequently granted bail on self recognition.

The state Police Command had earlier in the month wrote the senator and summoned him to appear at its headquarters over the murder case.

The letter with reference number CR: 2000/KDS/VOL5H/72, written by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Iwa, has asked the senator to appear on April 30.

Police had claimed that a murder suspect, Isa Garba, who was arrested by the military, had allegedly implicated the Sani after he was transferred to the police.

Sani wrote about his visitation to the police in honour of the invitation on his Twitter handle.

He said, “The Police invited me to appear today by 10:45 am. I honored the invitation to the Police Headquarters in Kaduna by 10:45 am with clear conscience. I wrote my statements. I was granted ‘self bail’. I have left.”

Sani’s response to police invitation runs contrary to that of his counterpart from Kogi West, Dino Melaye, who is currently recuperating in the National Hospital Abuja, following his refusal to honour police invitations.

Police in Kogi said it had on two separate invitations summoned Melaye to appear over allegations of gunrunning and false assassination attempt claim.

Melaye had refused to go to Kogi State on the claim he will be killed, and when eventually arrested and was being taken to the state, he allegedly jumped out of police vehicle, injuring himself in the process.
