Workers need solutions not blame games, NLC tells politicians

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the political and economic class in the country to seek for ways to solve the economic crisis in the country, and instead of playing blame games and giving excuses.

The NLC also said that President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government must replace the current disorganised policies with sustainable national development agenda.

The workers’ union also advised the political and economic class to embrace a bipartisan and pan-Nigerian approach to tackle the present economic crisis in the country.

A member of the National Executive Council of Nigeria Labour Congress, Issa Aremu, stated this during an interactive session in an event organised by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Saturday in Owerri, the Imo State capital

According to Aremu, Nigerians are seriously affected by rising inflation, double digit interest rates, factory closures and general underdevelopment, adding that the people must collectively confront underdevelopment.

He said the wage increase linked with productivity improvement and quick payment of the backlog of salaries owed by state and local governments are required to reduce the present hardship of Nigerians.

Commenting on the views of the past two CBN governor, Dr Charles Soludo and Alhaji Lamido Sanusi on the way and manner President Buhari’s administration is being run, Aremu argued that the observations of the former CBN bosses sounded too familiar, predictable but not proffering any solutions for an economy begging for remedy.

Aremu then said that Nigeria must replace the “current disjointed policies” with sustainable national development agenda and called for the repositioning of Nigeria monetary and fiscal policies to drive sustainable development.
