Governor Abdullazeez Yari of Zamfara State is the new chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, even as Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State was on Monday elected chairman of the 19-member Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) replacing Babangida Aliyu of Niger State whose tenure ends this month.

Yari’s new portfolio was announced by chairman of NGF and governor of Rivers State, Governor Rotimi Amaechi after a meeting of the group in Abuja early Tuesday, while Shettima’s election took place at a meeting of the NGF held at the Niger State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, on Monday.

Kano State governor-elect, Abdullahi Ganduje, also emerged as the vice chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum.

The forum also agreed to intervene in the lingering crisis in the Nigerian Governors’ Forum by uniting the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led NGF and the one led by Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang.

I’m excited about this…hopefully the forum can be united. If not, the idea might as well be scraped.
