16yrs after, Buhari reopens Bola Ige’s murder file

Financiers of Bola Ige to be identified soon

After 16 years of Chief Bola Ige’s death, his killers may not go unpunished, as President Muhammadu Buhari, has instructed the Acting Inspector-General (Act. IGP) of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to reopen investigation into the case.

Ige was a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice; he was shot dead in his bedroom in Bodija, Ibadan at about 9pm on December 23, 2001, 30 minutes after arriving Ibadan from Lagos.

According to reports, his security details were alleged to have excused themselves to go and eat before he was murdered by yet to be known assassins.

After his death accusing fingers were pointed at some politicians who may not have been happy with Ige’s growing political profile. Some also claimed that the cause of his assassination might not have been unconnected with his impending probe of the corruption in the power sector.

Aside ordering investigation into Ige’s assassination case, the Federal Government, also ordered that the murder of ex-deputy national chairman, South-South, of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Aminosari Dokubo, who was assassinated near Asaba on October 22, 2004, be looked into.

The two assassinations which happened during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration got Nigerians across the nation, calling for the government to fish out the killers and till date no person(s) has been officially fingered as being responsible for the deaths of these prominent Nigerian politicians.

However, it has been gathered that the Acting IGP has already instituted high power investigation team to do all they can to unravel the perpetrators of these unresolved murder cases.

Chief Ige’s son, Architect Muyiwa Ige, who reacted to the development said, “I knew right from the advent of the administration of President Buhari that the matter would be resurrected. The President is in the right direction. To God be the glory. It’s a new day; we are happy, we will get justice after 16 years. We are happy that all those who murdered our father, including the star witness, will be brought to justice. It’s good news.”
