1. My attackers acted under the influence of drugs and alcohol —Ekweremadu

The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, Monday said his attackers in Nuremberg, Germany on Saturday acted under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Ekweremadu, who was attacked at an event to celebrate the New Yam Festival by Igbos in Germany, by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), said this while speaking to journalists on his return to the country at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

2. Ex-military ruler Abdulsalami, govs advocate total freedom for Nigerian Judiciary

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on Monday implored the government at all levels to allow judiciary in the country perform its responsibilities with total freedom. The trio spoke in Minna, the Niger State capital, at the opening ceremony of a training of magistrates and District Court judges of the state.

3. Court stops ICPC from seizing Yari’s properties

Temporary respite came the way of the immediate former governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja stopped the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) from seizing properties belonging to him. The presiding judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, ruling on an ex parte application, ordered the parties to the case to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the main suit.

4. ABIA: As pressure mounts, Gov Ikpeazu sets up committee on salary, pension arrears

As pressure mounts on the state government, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has inaugurated an 8-member committee to articulate the modality for the payment of the arrears of salaries, pensions and allowances owed to civil servants and pensioners in the state. The committee has been given 14 working days to complete its assignment and hand in its recommendation to the government.

5. BAYELSA GUBER: Dickson vows not to support aspirants outside his PDP Restoration Caucus

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, on Monday said he would not support any aspirant outside his Restoration Caucus for the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16 governorship election in the state. The governor stated this while inagurating the Restoration Caucus Primary Election Committee at the Government House, Yenogoa.

6. Court orders Nigerian govt to pay Benue communities N8bn over 2001 military invasion

The Abuja division of the Federal High Court on Monday ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately pay the sum of N8bn awarded in favour of some Tiv communities in Logo, Ukum, Kwande and Katsina-Ala Local Government Areas of Benue State. The payment is to cover for the loss of lives and property suffered by the communities when their towns were invaded by soldiers of the Nigerian Army in 2001.

9. Kaduna CJ swears-in 40 new magistrates

Kaduna State Chief Judge Justice Muhammad Lawal Bello on Monday swore-in 40 magistrates. He also warned them against engaging in any form of corrupt practices which he said will only land them in jail.

10. Stock market ends losing streak, gains N93bn

The nation’s stock market recovered from two consecutive weeks of lose to gain N93 billion on Monday. The market capitalisation of equities increased from N13.121tn on Friday to N13.214tn on Monday as the All Share Index appreciated by 0.71 per cent to settle at 27,177.22 basis points.
