1. Buhari thanks Nigerians for ignoring ‘Revolution’ protest

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he was humbled by the support Nigerians showed for the “democratic values of modern-day Nigeria” by deliberately ignoring calls for the phantom ‘revolution.’ The President was referring to the planned nationwide mass protests against bad political system and malgovernance, tagged “#RevolutionNow!” which began on Monday, August 5.

2. Soyinka, Falana ‘hypocrites’, Buhari deserves praise for arrest of Sowore —BMO

The Buhari Media Organization has asked all supporters of the #RevolutionNow protest to retrace their steps, claiming that the movement is capable of igniting violence and large scale mayhem in the country. BMO specifically called out Nobel Laurate, Professor Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana (SAN) and some civil society organizations, warning that endorsing such would embolden others with violent inclinations.

3. Nigeria now a failed state — Middle Belt Forum

The Middle Belt Forum, MBF, has lamented that Nigeria is now a failed state with the breakdown of security and various national institutions in the country. The forum, which made the lamentation in a communique issued at the end of a one-day conference for Middle Belt ethnic nationalities held in Abuja also called for the implementation of the 2014 National Conference recommendations.

4. #RevolutionNow: Sowore, supporters ‘are not happy’ Buhari govt is winning fight against insecurity —Police

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Abubakar, has warned residents of the state against participating in the #RevolutionNow protest, stating that it will crush any attempt by any persons or group to hold the rally. According to Danmallam, the #RevolutionNow protest is an invitation to anarchy.

5. Gunmen attack Accountant, snatch N9.5m

There was pandemonium on Monday in Minna, the Niger State capital as gunmen numbering four attacked the Chief Accountant of the state’s Head of Service, snatching N9.5 million from him. According to reports, the Chief Accountant, Idris Abdulahi, was returning from a commercial Bank in the town where he had gone to withdraw the money meant for the overhead of the HoS office when he was attacked by the gate of the State secretariat.

6. BENUE: Miyetti Allah appeals court ruling on anti-open grazing law

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Social-cultural Association has filed an appeal against the July 4 ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which validated the Benue State Government’s anti-grazing law. In a suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/527/2017 filed by its Counsel, Aliyu Ahmed and Abdulhamid Mohammed, the Fulani socio-cultural group, said it was dissatisfied with the judgment of Justice Abang delivered on July 4 in suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/527/17.

7. EL-ZAKZAKY: We’ll obey court order — DSS

The Department of State Services has assured that it will comply and grant Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, a leave to get medical treatment following a court order. A Kaduna High Court had earlier on Monday ordered the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and his wife, Zeenat, so that they could seek medical treatment in India.

8. #RevolutionIsNow: SERAP vows to drag Buhari’s govt to international court

The Socio-Economic Rights And Accountability Project (SERAP) has reacted to the alleged arrest of a journalist and some ‘RevolutionNow’ protesters by Nigeria’s security operatives. The organisation called on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to release the arrested persons immediately, vowing to initiate international legal action against the government should it fail its demand.

9. OGUN: Amosun’s finance commissioner tackles Abiodun, says he inherited N18.2bn

A former Commissioner for Finance in Ogun State under former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Mr Adewale Oshinowo, has picked holes in claims by Governor Dapo Abiodun that he met an empty treasury, insisting that the Amosun-led administration left about N18.21 billion behind. Oshinowo’s views were contained in a statement he made in Abeokuta on Monday, insisting that the claim by Abiodun that he met an empty treasury was far from the truth.

10. EFCC confirms raid on ex-gov Yari’s residence, gives reason

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained that it raided the residence of former Zamfara governor, Abdulaziz Yari over allegations of economic and financial crimes. Operatives anti-graft commission had on Sunday evening stormed the country home of the former Governor, at Talata Mafara, in a raid which was reported to have lasted for several hours.
