100 days: An unnecessary controversy

The 100th day milestone is fast approaching and the vultures are already circling. We have been enmeshed in accusations and counter accusations of promises made and promises denied all in a bid to emerge stronger by either side of the divide by the time this administration hits that magical milestone.

Me as Edgar I know what I heard during the electioneering campaign. As a staunch supporter of the last thieving administration, I was surrounded on every corner by the agents of change, including my wife who snuck out of the house, risking her marital status to go vote for change, I couldn’t be more versed in the campaign promises that heralded the sign posting of this administration.

From the declaration of assets, to the conquering of Boko Haram; from the fixing of the economy, to the handling of the fuel subsidy wahala, I heard it all. Every agent of change both official and unofficial screamed it to the loudest, and we all finally were forced to accept the electoral victory with the hope, that at least the people have spoken and the country would be turned into an Eldorado.

For three months I did not eat my wife’s food and refused my conjugal rights in a flurry of anger since she went against my position as her husband to vote for change. But at the swearing in ceremony when I heard the ‘I belong to everyone and no one’ speech I forgave my wife and exposed myself to the very best of conjugal bliss that night.

This was because that statement to me was deep and profound. By the way, our leader is adept at making such epoch making statements. Remember the one he made in 1983, ‘this generation and indeed future generations have no other country but Nigeria and we must stay to salvage it together’. This statement touched me and I believed in the sincerity of this government and its ability to deliver on its electioneering promises.

So you can see why this present situation where campaign promises in this day and age of social media is being blatantly denied is affecting my peace of mind. I am looking at my wife again in growing anger contemplating whether I should resume my abstinence. But the woman, get sense, as she has immediately started walking around the house in micro shorts thereby making my intention to embark on strike very difficult.

But be that as it may, the present situation where these things are being denied remains unacceptable. It goes to show the calibre of people leading this change mantra and if they are not careful they can erode the legitimacy and moral equity of this new regime.

I think the excuse of ‘taking our time’ and also that ‘it took PDP over 16years to destroy the nation and we can’t repair it in 90 days’ is more tenable than when you start denying well documented promises. We are ready to accept the meticulous and gradual approach to solving our problems which I must say is more credible than this present situation.

That said, the APC has nothing to fear, they have achieved a lot since they came into power and if they won’t blow their trumpets, I will blow it. They have redefined the concept of meritocracy, showing how to make appointments purely on merit with the added mechanism of identifying a particular geographical location, as the hotbed of merit in a federation of many geopolitical zones.

They have succeeded in visiting Obama in America, they succeeded in using the opposing party to elect their own Senate President, they have commenced a probe – which is one electioneering promise. They have caused erstwhile strong political gladiators into their sick beds; Deziani and Kingsley Kuku, they have silenced the Chibok girls campaigners, who only just came out a little for the visit of Ban ki Moon, they have silenced and limited the powers of the godfathers who put them on board and finally OBJ is yet to criticise them.

These feats all need to be celebrated at that historic 100days when we get there. If they won’t celebrate it, me I will celebrate it for them. As for my wife, she just walked past in another skimpy number and has put me into more dilemmas.  Is Buhari and his promises worth my abstinence, Abeg make I enter room. See you.
