President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation six names of national commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He also sent names of five persons for screening and subsequent confirmation as national commissioners of National Population Commission (NPC).
This is coming after the INEC has so far conducted three state elections in Kogi, Bayelsa and Edo states, under the incumbent administration, with analysts suggesting that the commission was not properly constituted to conduct such elections.
Two letters from the President to the Senate bearing these demands were read at the Senate plenary by the Senate President Bukola Saraki.
The appointment was in agreement with the provisions of Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Names of those nominated as INEC national commissioner are, Prof. Okechukwu Obinna Ibeanu,  Anambra State; May I. Agbamuche-Mbu, Delta State; AVM Ahmed Tijani Mu’Azu, Gombe State; Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Niger State; Dr Adekunle Ladipo Ogunmola, Oyo State; and Abubakar Ahmed Nahuche, Zamfara State.
And those for NPC were given as, Engr. Benedict Ukpong, Akwa Ibom State; Gloria Fateya Izonfuo, Bayelsa State; Barr Kupchi Patricia Ori Iyanya, Benue State; Dr Haliru Bala, Kebbi State; and Dr Eyitayo Oyetunji, Oyo State.
