ULC STRIKE: Politicians using Ajaero, Igwe to discredit Buhari govt --Labour group

The United Labour Congress has yielded to pleas by the Federal Government and has called off the strike it embarked on days ago.

The suspension came after the leadership of ULC on Tuesday met with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the Federal Government Negotiation Team.

The announcement of the suspension of the strike was made by ULC president, Comrade Joe Ajaero on Wednesday.

The union had embarked on the strike on grounds that the Federal Government was yet to recognise the body as a labour federation regardless of the fact that it had met all legal requirements for the body’s approval.

It had also accused the Federal government of violating the Constitution of Nigeria which stipulates freedom of association, and the Trade Union Act.

However, at the meeting on Tuesday, the Labour Minister was said to have assured the union that the proposal for the registration of ULC was receiving attention.

The meeting resolved that the two groups will continue their deliberations on the contentious issue by next week, when it is hoped the matter would be finalized.

Petroleum workers were among members of the group who participated in the strike action that witnessed partial compliance..

Affliates of the union such as the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP); Aeronautical Information Services Association of Nigeria (AISAN), and the National Association of Air Traffic Engineers (NAAE) shunned the strike while it lasted.

They have done well by satisfying the federal government, it is now the FG’s turn to satisfy they so ULC won’t think of going on strike again

They never intended to go on the strike at first, if they wanted to strike, they won’t call it off after barely 48 hours. The federal government has not reached concrete agreement with them, so what’s the point calling it off?

It’s good the time called off the strike, if the federal government still refused to recognize them, they should head to the court to trash it out.
