Agbakoba emerges Nat’l chairman of new Mega party to wrest power from Buhari

Nigerian Intervention Movement (NIM) has described the nation’s security chiefs as failures due to the incessant killings in many part of the country, particularly in the middle belt.

The group has therefore urged President Muhammadu Buhari to without any further delay sack the service chiefs and rearrange the entire security architecture of the country.

In a statement signed by the group’s two co-chairmen, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, and Dr. Abdujalil Tafawa-Balewa, NIM asked Buhari to be sensitive in appointing new security chiefs that must reflect the heterogeneous nature of Nigeria.

Expressing dismay in killings in Middle Belt, most especially in Benue State, NIM made 10 proposals that will help end the killings. Included in the proposal was the implementation of the 2014 National Conference, most importantly the area of state policing.

“Change the leadership of Nigeria’s entire security and intelligence infrastructure as they have failed in coming up with strategies for dealing with the situation. However, in appointing the new leadership, the government should be sensitive to the heterogeneous nature and diversity of Nigeria particularly our ethnic, religious and regional peculiarities and reflect same in the new appointments to engender the lost confidence and trust of Nigerians

“Redeploy police officers from the rank of commissioners to constables to their states of origin as an interim measure to douse the suspicion of collusion with herdsmen militia,” NIM statement read in part.

While the group also called on Buhari to monitor the activities of established herdsmen groups as the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) closely, it further urged him to meet religious leaders to find ways of ending the menace.
