ALLEGED BRIBERY: APC legal adviser, Banire, steps down to save party image

The National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN), on Monday stepped down pending the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation into his alleged bribing of a judge with N500, 000.

Banire who made his decision known in a letter dated November 8, 2016 and addressed to the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) through the party National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun and copied to President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, said he chose to step down pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation.

He also claimed he stepped down in the interest of the image of the party.

Banire was on Friday November 4, quizzed by the EFCC for several hours for allegedly paying N500, 000 into the account of Justice James Agbadu-Fishim.

Banire alleged involvement in corruption, was said to have come up in the course of scanning the account details of the judge, who presides over the National Industrial Court, and it was discovered that Banire had paid the sum into the account.
