Alleged missing NNPC $20b: Buhari to probe GEJ administration

Published

The last has definitely not been heard of the claim by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) now Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, that $20bn was unaccounted for by the NNPC, as the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to reopen the issue and thoroughly look into it.

Buhari said this when a delegation of party supporters and newly elected officials on the platform of the APC from Adamawa State, paid him a visit at his campaign office in Abuja.

The President-Elect who spoke in Hausa, expressed surprise that, instead of probing the allegations by the former CBN governor, the authorities chose to fire him.

According to him, since Sanusi’s claim was documented, his administration will take a second look at the document when he assumes power on May 29th. “On the issue of corruption, I heard that some people have started returning money. I will not believe it until I go and see for myself.

Also, the party’s national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed in a statement on Sunday said that officials of the Jonathan administration are involved in ‘last minute dubious activities’ that would cause the administration embarrassment, ahead of the May 29 handover date.

He accused officials of the outgoing administration of allegedly looting the nation’s resources, hurriedly recruiting into the public service and privatisatising key financial institutions.

This he said will make a probe of the Jonathan administration between the date of the presidential election, and the date of handover inevitable.
