WIKE TO BURATAI: Don't grumble, stop assigning soldiers to politicians

Following allegations Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike leveled against the Inspectors General Of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, the Rivers State All Progressive Congress (APC), has descended on the governor, describing his actions as attempts to blackmail the police boss.

Joined in the attack against Wike, is APC governorship candidate in the 2015 election, Dr Dakuku Peterside, who described the allegation as being serious and admonished him to rather take the matter to court if he has evidence.

Wike not long ago accused the IGP of a plot to murder him. While the dust the allegation raised was yet to settle, the governor at the weekend claimed that the police boss was plotting to raid his Abuja home with likely intent to plant AK47 and other implicating thing in the house to use and implicate him.

However the state APC in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Mr Chris Finebone, accused the governor of cheap blackmail of the IGP in order to have him do his bidding.

“The APC believes that the bitter war being unleashed on the present IG by Wike is a desperate attempt to blackmail, coerce and subdue the IG, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and other key officers to do the bidding of the governor.

“APC calls on the National Security Adviser, Minister of Interior and the IG to view the actions and utterances of Wike beyond mere politics but as a grave threat to national security and do the needful to safeguard the security of our dear fatherland,” APC said.

Peterside in his reaction said, “This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that the governor of a state will openly accuse the nation’s number one policeman of plotting to kill him.

Peterside who is the head of the Nigeria Maritime Safety and Administration Agency (NIMASA) said “Wike claims he is a lawyer and we expect such a person to head to court to bring the police boss to justice if he has facts and proof to get conviction. Accusing the Police IG of attempted murder is a serious offence.”
