“It started with Joe Willock. After that, Alex Iwobi gave a good ball to Aaron. Aaron produced a great cross and Iwobi got on the end of it. It was a great goal to score and overall it’s good for the confidence to win games in pre-season.”

The match ended 1-1 in regulation time and led to a penalty shootout, which Arsenal won 4-3; and Wenger went on to praise the overall performance of his side against the German giants.

“We are here to prepare,” continued Wenger.

“Not everything was perfect, but we have to push ourselves because in the last two days we have done it. I expected the game to be even more difficult for us physically, but many of the players are already in good shape.”

The Gunners will play their next pre-season game on Saturday against Chelsea in Beijing.
