Tottenham and Arsenal drew 2-2 in a typically frenetic north London derby, allowing Manchester City to trim the gap in the Premier League title race with a 4-0 win over last-place Aston Villa on Saturday.

West Ham scored three goals in the final 12 minutes to rally to a 3-2 win at Everton and keep in touch with the top four, which could now be out of reach for Chelsea after the soon-to-be-deposed champions drew 1-1 at home to Stoke.

Within seven minutes, Spurs had gone in front on goals by Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane, who curled a brilliant shot in off the post from the side of the penalty area, but they couldn’t hang on.

Police said two men were arrested for separate public-order offences ahead of the derby match as fans clashed with police near the stadium.

City took advantage of two of its title rivals dropping points, with all of its goals coming in the second half against Villa.

Sergio Aguero scored twice, and later missed a penalty, while Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling also netted as City ended a run of three straight losses to move to within five points of second-place Spurs, with a game in hand.

West Ham is provisionally a point behind City after its stunning recovery against Everton, which went into a 2-0 lead through goals by Romelu Lukaku and Aaron Lennon that sandwiched a red card to its winger Kevin
