Military repel Boko Haram attack in Bornu

Many victims of insurgents, especially survivors have continued to count their losses thus far. One of them AshakaCem Plc, a subsidiary of LafargeHolcim reportedly lost over N4.5billion to the Boko Haram insurgency from the company’s cement plant at Funakaye local government area of Gombe state.
Giving insight at the weekend was the Chairman of Ashaka Cement Plc, Malam Suleiman Yahaya. He spoke at the palace of the Emir of Gombe after presenting 100 bags of polished rice to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) resident in the state.
He said: “In spite of the fact that we have lost over N4.5billion from those two attacks, we are determined to ensure that Ashaka Cement is one of the only surviving institution in the entire North-eastern Nigeria.”
It was reliably informed that the company lost over 10 trips of Ammonium Sulphate just as more than 18 Toyota Hilux vans including brand new ambulances were either taken away or vandalised by the insurgents.

He said specialised manpower were lost just as the security situation led to poor market and loss of income for the company.
The AshakaCem boss hinted that the Board of LafargeHolcim in furtherance of the company’s corporate social responsibilities to its host communities had approved a new project for the construction of affordable housing for the IDPs as well as the people of Gombe.
He also hinted of plans by the company to extend the same gesture to other Boko Haram afflicted regions of the northeast including Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno states and the rest of the country.
While responding, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar Shehu III, the Emir of Gombe commended the management for the successful merger of Lafarge and Holcim as well as their commitment to Nigeria’s economy by remaining in business despite the security challenges in the northeast.
