PDP urges NASS to probe Buhari, recover N14tn allegedly stolen under his govt

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not satisfied with the Presidency’s denial that President Muhammadu Buhari was not attacked in Kebbi State.

The party has, therefore, called for an immediate investigation into the reported security breach and suspected “attack” on Buhari by a yet to the named individual.

A video circulated on social media had shown a young man approach Buhari in a manner that looked like he wanted to attack him.

The incident happened on Thursday while Buhari was on an official assignment in Kebbi State, but the presidency had stated that it was not an attack, but rather a fan who wanted to greet the president.

In its response in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP condemned the security breach.

“Investigation was necessary given public apprehension over conflicting reports in various sections of the media on the frightening development,” the opposition party said.

The party stressed that the office and person of the President embodies the identity and sovereignty of the nation.

“The safety of Mr President and his family members is therefore paramount and must not be compromised under any excuse,” it added.

The PDP described the incident as a national security issue and urged the Presidency to go beyond mere dismissal of the breach and give further information regarding the identity of the said individual, how he succeeded in beating the security around the President as well as his whereabouts since the incident.

“The PDP is however worried that the security lapses around Mr President, leading to the breach, further shows the poor handling of security issues by the Presidency, which also spectacles in the ineffective management of overall national security under the current administration,” it said.

The PDP urged Mr President’s handlers to be more alert, professional and organized to forestall such security breaches in the future.
