It's official! Bala Mohammed wins Bauchi governorship election

Moves to upturn the victory of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bala Mohammed at the last governoship polls will begin on Monday at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Bauchi State.

According to a statement issued by Alhaji Bello Abdullahi, Secretary to the tribunal, commencement of pre-hearing conference into three petitions filed before it against Mohammed would be heard by the tribunal on Monday.

The petitions include those separately filed by three political parties challenging the election of Sen. Bala Mohammed of the Peoples democratic Party (PDP), as governor-elect.

The parties are the Action Peoples Party (APP), Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) and All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bala Mohammed had polled 515,113 votes to defeat his closest rivals the outgoing Governor of the state, Mohammed Abubakar of the (APC) who scored 500,325 votes.

The three parties are seeking the nullification of Mohammed’s declaration as winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to alleged noncompliance with the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

Mohammed, who is waiting to be sworn in on May 29, 2019, is also facing bribery charges at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The anti-graft body accused Mohammed of accepting as bribe houses located at No 2599 & 2600 Cadastral Zone, AO4 Asokoro District, Abuja, from Aso Savings & Loans Plc in 2014, contrary to Section 18 (b) of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and punishable under Section 18 (d).
