Niger Delta militants may tackle Nigerian govt over herdsmen killings

An attack by suspected pirates on the Tunu flowstation belonging to the Shell Petroleum Development Company in the Letugbene area of Bayelsa State witnessed the killing of no less than three soldiers.

Reports say the attack on the soldiers attached to the Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta, codenamed Operation Delta Safe, also witnessed the killing of one of the pirates.

The pirates attempted to invade the flow station on Sunday but were resisted by the soldiers and a gun battled ensued leading to the death of three soldiers while others sustained injuries.

The JTF declined to comment on the incident but a security source who declined to be named said; “The soldiers were deployed in the SPDC Tuna flowstation. They engaged the sea pirates in a shootout to stop an attack on the flowstation.”
