BROKEN FOOT: Bayern keeper Neuer ruled out for rest of the year

After undergoing surgery on his broken foot, Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will return to the games in January, 2018, the club has revealed.

The 31-year-old Germany international, who had sustained the same injury to the same foot last April during a Champions League match against Real Madrid, suffered a repeat in training on Monday.

“The operation went perfectly, which is the most important thing for now,” said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

“We are now looking to the future. Manuel will be back to his previous best and available in January.”

Bayern, who began their Uefa Champions League campaign with a win over Anderlecht last week, will play away to Paris St-Germain in their next game next week.

The recent development means Neuer will be out of Bayern’s remaining five Champions League group games, and 29-year-old Sven Ulreich is now favourite to start those games.
