President Muhammadu Buhari has pleaded with world leaders to facilitate the repatriation of looted funds as he appeared at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72) holding in New York.

A competent presidency official, who is also in New York but prefers not to be quoted because he was not authorized to speak, told New Telegraph correspondent that the President had the agenda of convincing the leaders as one of the main thrust of his message during his presentation. According to the source, the President is presently worried that despite efforts by his government to retrieve monies stashed away in various foreign bank accounts in Europe and America in particular, the governments of these countries were reluctant to assist his administration in recovering the funds.

The source said that what was most disturbing to the President was the introduction by the foreign government of different technicalities which have slowed down recovery process.

“Some of the technicalities include the need for a guarantee from the Nigerian government that if repatriated, such monies will not find there was back to foreign banks.
