2019: Minister Alhassan may work against Buhari

The Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Aisha Jumai Alhassan may have resigned her membership of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, in her bid to contest for the governorship election of her state, Taraba in 2019.

This was disclosed via a letter of approval signed by President Muhammadu Buhari and addressed to the former minister. The letter was dated July 27.

The letter which had gone viral on social social media, could not be authenticated as at the time of this report.

I’m the letter, President Buhari thanked her for her contributions to the party and the government.

The President however impressed it on Mama Taraba, as she is fondly called, that it is the policy of his government to only support candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The President’s letter might have emphasized on support for only APC candidates because there are expectations in many quarters that the former minister may dump the party for PDP.

It would be recalled that Alhassan made headlines when she openly said she would not support the ambition of President Buhari for a second term in office but rather support her political god father, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has decamped to the PDP.

Hajia Alhassan has contested the governorship seat of Taraba State in the 2015 elections, but was defeated by the current governor, Darius Ishaku.

She approached the election tribunal and was declared winner of the election by the Court of Appeal before the judgement was upturned by the Suprem Court.
