Bus crash in Panama claims 18 lives, injures 37 others

Tragedy struck in the southwest of Panama’s capital, when a bus carrying more than 50 workers skidded off the road and plunged into a stream.

The incident which occurred on the Pan-American Highway in Anton, about 105 miles (170 kilometers) from Panama City claimed the lives of 18 people and injured 37 others.

According to Civil Defense Director Jose Donderis, 16 of the victims died at the scene of the incident and two died later at the hospital. Another person he revealed remained in critical condition with doctors battling to save his life.

No information on what caused the accident was revealed by authorities who informed that all the dead and injured who were aboard the bus when it plunged into the stream were all adult males.
