CAFCC: Rivers Utd secure win over KCCA in P'Hacourt

Nigeria’s representative Rivers United FC secured their second win in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup by beating Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) 2-1 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

In the reverse fixture, which took place on June 3rd in Uganda, Rivers were also beaten 2-1 by KCCA.

But as a result of Tuesday’s victory, Rivers are now temporary on second place in the Group A standings, while the Ugandan side is on third, pending the emergence of results from the other group tie later on Tuesday.

Bernard Ovoke scored the opener from Sakin Bolaji’s corner-kick as the visitors exposed their defense.

It was soon 2-0 to the Port Hacourt side and this time it was Frederick Obomate who scored with Ovoke grabbing an assist in the 15th minute.

The visitors then got the consolation when Geoffrey Sserunkuma made it 2-1 on the stroke of halftime, and later suffered a major blow in the closing stages of the match as Habib Kavuma was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

Rivers United’s next game is at home against Club Africain of Tunisia which comes up on Sunday, July 2.
