Champions Spain show class against Turkey

Spain became the first team at EURO 2016 to score three goals in a match while cruising to a win over Turkey.

An Alvaro Morata brace and another from Nolito handed Spain a 3-0 win in a vintage performance from Vicente del Bosque’s men. The Spanish now sit atop Group D and have secured advancement into the knockout rounds, while the Turkish have been eliminated.

Spain expectedly controlled the play from the start of the match, holding about 70-percent of possession in the first half. However, it took nearly 35 minutes for the defending European champions to find a breakthrough.

The Spanish deservedly took the lead through an Alvaro Morata header, perfectly guiding a Nolito cross past the Turkish goalkeeper to the far post. Then just minutes later, Nolito grabbed a goal of his own, taking advantage of a failed clearance to give Spain a 2-0 lead in the blink of an eye.

After the break, the Spanish picked up right where they left off, with Morata scoring his second of the game in the 48th minute. A beautiful bit of team play led Jordi Alba in on goal, as the Barcelona defender slotted a pass across the box to leave an easy tap-in for Morata.

Spain were on cruise-control after the third goal, with Turkey rarely seeing the ball in the attacking third. With two wins from two matches, the Spanish will wrap up group play against Croatia on Tuesday.
