Court arraigns travel agent for defrauding man seeking Qatari visa of N1.1m

Court jails man for importing 1,570 pump-action guns

The police has arraigned a 37-year-old travel agent, Amarachi Ogbuchi for allegedly defrauding one Ikechukwu Onuaha of N1.1m on the pretext of helping him to procure a Qatari visa.

He was docked at the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos.

Inspector Benson Emuerhi, police prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the crime in January 2017 on Alaje Avenue, Graceland Estate, in Egbeda area of Lagos State.

“The defendant collected the money and failed to procure the visa as promised; she forged documents to secure a Qatari visa for the complainant and converted the money to her personal use and absconded to an unknown destination,” Emuerhi stated.

The prosecutor added that, the defendant threatened the victim’s life and blocked his phone number. when he demanded for his money.

Ogbuchi who was arraigned on three counts of fraud, forgery and stealing, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat adjourned the case till May 2, 2019 and admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
