COVID-19: Rescue Kano, don't wait till it gets out of hand, senator begs Nigerian govt

The Nigerian government has been called upon to come to the rescue of Kano State in the fight against Covid-19 spread in the state.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North) who made the call, said the Federal Government should urgently assist Kano before the situation in the state got out of hand.

The senator made the call on Wednesday, pleading that government should assist the state the same way it assisted Lagos State.

According to Jibrin, the Federal Government should assist Kano State with funds, equipment and additional testing facilities to meet the challenges in fighting the disease.

Noting that it was necessary to seek Nigerian government’s intervention owing to the rising cases of coronavirus in the state, he said:

“The Covid-19 pandemic is such that no state government can effectively deal with it alone without the assistance of Federal Government no matter how rich and developed such sub-national could be.”

Kano, Osun, Oyo and Edo states had been placed under close monitoring to curtail increasing community transmissions by the Federal Government.

Jibrin said the action was commendable, adding that Kano deserved Federal Government’s help because of its strategic location and importance to the country.
