Cultists stab man to death in Rivers

13 students killed as cultists invade Kogi varsity in reprisal attacks

A man, simply identified as Benjamin has been stabbed to death by cultists in the mile 2, Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The cultists were said to have entered the house on Alozie street after knocking on the door, and Mr Benjamin opened, thinking they were regular visitors. Neighbours said they heard arguments and shouting, and commotion that made them know a violent attack was taking place.
His daughter, the only other person in the house at the time of the attack, suspecting that the cultist may be after her was said to have ran out of the house, using a side window, when she heard the commotion.
Some residents who spoke on condition of anonymity said the deceased was an easy going fellow, as they wondered what could have led to the attack, which threw the area into fear.
Though details are scanty, it was learnt that after the attackers left, the victim was rescued by the daughter, whose name was given as Divine and some neighbours from a pool of his own blood, with stab wounds on some parts of his body, and rushed to the hospital.
He however died the next day (yesterday) from injuries sustained during the attack.
Though the police spokesman in the state, while speaking on the incident, said investigations were ongoing, residents of the area expressed worries that the culprits may not be brought to justice.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a resident of the area told our correspondent, that the deceased had only recently had to nurse his daughter, Divine back to life after she was also allegedly attacked and violently raped by cultists.
It was gathered, that Divine, a student of Uniport, was lucky to have escaped the cultists’ attack, as she lost a friend in that incidence, after they reportedly attended a house party somewhere in Rumuoekini area of the state.
The source said it’s not unlikely that the cultists may have been after the daughter, who they may have had issues with, as the case of rape and attack on her was still an ongoing police affair.
The cultists are unforgiving, and do not take it lightly with anyone who reports them to the police or other law enforcement agencies, as they have been known to kill people in the past for simply reporting their activities to the police.
Residents of the community, and indeed other parts of the state, have continued to live in fear over the activities of cultists, who have continued to terrorize the state.
