Drunk cop goes berserk, kills 3, himself

Tragedy struck at a hotel in the Ketu area of Lagos State when an apparently drunk policeman, Stephen James shot and killed three male customers on Saturday.
Among those shot by the policeman in the incident which many said played out like a scene from a movie were twin brothers identified as Taiye and Kehinde Oyesunle and their friend simply known as Jeje.

Trouble started when the policeman began to threaten customers to buy him alcoholic drink outside the premises of Paulson Hotel on Anibaba street in Ketu.

Eyewitnesses say the policeman who reports say was constantly under the influence felt slighted when the victims; Jeje and his twin friends Taiwo and Kehinde cautioned him to conduct himself as an adult and in an orderly manner so as to be seen as a responsible policeman.

Those words by the victims sent the policeman into a foul mood and unknown to many, he had decided to teach the young men a deadly lesson.

Reports say the policeman ambushed and killed the three young men as they made to step out of the hotel premises where they had gone to celebrate Jeje’s birthday and on realising the gravity of what he had done the policeman took his own life by shooting himself in the chest.

Confirming the killings, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joe Offor said he is aware of the incident but had not yet received the full details of what transpired.
“The policeman was on duty at that hotel. He was attached to Mopol 22, Ikeja. He was drunk while on duty and he acted under the influence of alcohol.” DSP Joe Offor said.
