Dybala says Italy's World Cup disappointment could be a blessing

Argentina and Juventus star, Paulo Dybala does not rule out the fact that Italy’s inability to reach the 2018 World Cup could be beneficial to the team in terms of improvement.

The forward admits “it’ll be strange not to see Italy at the World Cup” but believes their no-show can “help them change their style of play.”

Dybala’s club teammates in the Italy squad will not be joining him in Russia after they lost 1-0 on aggregate to Sweden in the playoffs, but while he was ‘sorry’ for his colleagues, he felt the disappointment could benefit the Azzurri in the long run.

“It’ll be strange not to see the Azzurri at the World Cup,” he told ESPN before Argentina lost 4-2 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Krasnodar, Russia on Tuesday night.

“However, I think it can help them change their style of play a bit, given they’ve had some difficulties lately.

“It’s a shame because I have several teammates in the Italy squad, who had their own dreams, and I’m sorry they won’t be there.”

Meanwhile, Denmark are the latest addition to the World Cup finalists after they thumped the Republic of Ireland 5-1 in the playoffs.

As it stands, a total of 30 teams around the world have guaranteed their participation at next year’s World Cup, as 2 teams are left to complete the lineup.
