EKITI APC GOV PRIMARY: Why Fayemi walked out of meeting with Tinubu

President Muhammadu Buhari has given his nod for the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to proceed on leave of absence over his governorship ambition.

Fayemi governed Ekiti between 2007 and 2011 but was unsuccessful in his second term bid, as the current governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose, defeated him in all 16 local government areas of the state including in his own LGA.

He had recently declared his intention to go back to the state government house and is now seeking his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket, to stand as a candidate in the July 14 governorship poll.

In a statement on Monday signed and released by Fayemi’s media aide, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, the one-month leave granted the minister started April 9.

“The attention of the Media office of Dr Kayode Fayemi, Minister of Mines and Steel Development, has been drawn to some media reports putting the date for the commencement of his leave at April 30th.

“As a matter of fact, Dr. Fayemi had commenced the one-month leave on April 9 as approved by the President, following the minister’s request.

“This is just to put the record straight and avoid any further mix up on the issue of the leave approved for the honourable Minister, who is a governorship aspirant on the APC.”

It is still unclear how the one month leave will enable the minister participate actively in the governorship election which holds on July 14, 2018, as the leave will expire on June 8, 2018.
