Fake suicide belt used in EgyptAir hijack authorities say
The hijacker of the EgyptAir plane who forced the domestic flight to land in Cyprus used a fake suicide belt authorities have confirmed.
The motive of the hijacker who is an Egyptian national is still not clear but the President of Cyprus confirmed that the incident was not related to terrorism.
Egypt’s interior ministry released footage showing the hijacker passing through several security checks before boarding the flight at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab airport.
The plane which was headed for Cairo was forced to land at the Larnaca airport in Cyprus by the hijacker who released all the passengers of the plane unhurt except the crew members and a few foreigners.
The drama ended when the hijacker gave himself up to security operatives at the airport after engaging a negotiator.
