Falcons edge Gambia in AWCON qualifier first leg

The Super Falcons of Nigeria made a step closer to qualifying for the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations after edging their Gambian counterparts 1-0 in Gambia on Wednesday.

The clash which took place at the Independence Stadium, Bakau is the first leg of the tie, and winners over two legs will qualify for the tournament billed to be hosted in Ghana.

Amarachi Okonkwo was the only scorer in the game, as her first-half strike sealed the win for the Super Faldons.

The reigning African champions filed out in their best quality, with stars like Desire Oparanozie, Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi and Chinaza Uchendu all in action.

The return leg of the tie comes up on Monday, June 11 in Lagos.
