Fire razes commodity market in Kwara

Early morning inferno on Tuesday razed the popular Owode market in Offa, Offa local government area of kwara State.

The fire destroyed goods worth several millions of naira.

An eyewitness told journalists the fire was caused electricity sparks in one of the shops

The eyewitness, a young lady, said the spark generated fire that razed the shop and spread to well over 20 other shops in the shopping mall.

She said: ”It occurred very early in the morning when everybody had gone home. So, when the wire sparked there was no quick response from anywhere to put it out and it spread to about five shops or so before people nearby realised what was happening.

“Several calls they made to Fire service couldn’t make any serious impact as they didn’t come to their rescue until several hours later when over 20 shops had been razed by the raging fire.”
