Former Ondo PDP chairman makes U-turn, wants his trial in Lagos

A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state, Clement Faboyede has asked a Federal High Court in Lagos to go ahead with his trial.

Faboyede who was charged alongside Modupe Tokunbo by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged N500 million fraud had filed an application seeking the transfer of his trial from Lagos to Ondo state.

But at the court proceedings on Tuesday, the defendants through their lawyer, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), a former Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, told the court they were ready for their trial in Lagos state.

Granting their prayer, Justice Saliu Saidu struck out the application and subsequently adjourned till February 12, 2019 for commencement of trial.

Faboyede, a former commissioner for Rural Development and cooperatives, was in June last year charged by the EFCC of making N500 million cash payment to the Ondo State Election Committee of the PDP without going through any financial institution.
