German authorities say motive of Munich attacker still unclear

The police in Germany have informed that the motive of the 18-year-old attacker who shot and killed nine victims before turning the gun on himself in the city of Munich is still unknown.

The police say the attacker may have acted alone in the shooting spree which occurred at the busy Olympia Shopping Centre and they also revealed that they were looking for up to three suspects following the attack.

“The perpetrator was an 18-year-old German-Iranian from Munich,” police chief Hubertus Andrae told reporters, adding that there was no sign of any additional shooters involved in the incident.

The suspect had dual citizenship and “no criminal record”. Two men initially suspected as accomplices in the shooting who had left the scene in a car were later interviewed and cleared, Andrae said.

“The motive or explanation for this crime is completely unclear.”He added.
