Gov Emmanuel storms Assembly, sacks APC lawmakers from sitting

The Akwa Ibom State governor, Emmanuel Udom on Tuesday stormed the state House of Assembly.

His appearance is said to have aided youths who had also earlier stormed the Assembly premises to disrupt the sitting of five All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers, said to be plotting the impeachment of Odom.

The five lawmakers, who were supposedly sacked for defecting from the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, were said to have taken over the main chamber of the Assembly complex for plenary.

But the governor, who apparently was unable to stomach how the allegedly APC lawmakers would be conducting plenary, was said to have stormed the complex to stop them.

It was learnt that a factional speaker of the House, Nse Ntuen, was manhandled and harassed by security personnel, and his vehicle almost mobbed as a result of the disruption.

Police had last week laid siege on the Assembly complex after supporters of the APC lawmakers staged a protest at the complex against the sacking of the lawmakers.

After three days siege, the police vacated the Assembly complex last Friday. The Senate has begun investigation into the happenings in the state Assembly.
