How MDAs vote billions for computers, furniture, others annually

A critical analysis of the Federal Government budget in the last five years has revealed that certain items always appear annually in the proposals of its Ministries, Departments and Agencies fueling speculations that they are conduits to divert billions of naira.

Investigations by SUNDAY PUNCH revealed that items such as computers, furniture, facility maintenance, stationery and kitchen equipment/tools, which are expected to last for certain numbers of years always appear in the agencies’ budgets every year.

Economic and financial experts, who spoke to our correspondents, lambasted the executive and the legislative arms for allowing civil servants to divert money meant for the nation’s development and welfare of the people into individual pockets with such recurring votes.
