A directive has been issued by the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIG), FCT’s and other state commands’ Commissioners of Police (CP) to arrest anyone selling petroleum products in plastic container.

While giving reasons for issuing the directive, the IG noted that it had become imperative following the untold hardship and hazard posed by black market petrol sellers.

The IG who was speaking through the Force spokesperson, Olabisi Kolawole, in a statement in Abuja yesterday noted that the act of black marketers has led to outbreaks of fire which has rendered many homeless and destroyed properties worth millions of naira.

“Apart from the hardship this act is causing to fuel buyers, it has also rendered some innocent and law-abiding citizens homeless due to fire outbreak from jerry-can petrol storage.”

The IG issued a stern warning to fuel attendants to stop selling fuel inside plastic containers and jerry-cans noting that if caught, the buyers and sellers of the product would be arrested and prosecuted.
