Impose more sanctions and your regional military bases will be at risk, Iran warns US

Iranian authorities have sent a note of warning to the US stating that American regional military bases would be at risk if further sanctions were imposed on Tehran.

“As we’ve announced in the past, if America’s new law for sanctions is passed, this country will have to move their regional bases outside the 2,000 km range of Iran’s missiles,” Guards’ commander Mohammad Ali Jafari said, according to state media.

Jafari who also warned against designating its Revolutionary Guards Corp as a terrorist by the US, said that additional sanctions would end the chances for future dialogue with America.

“If the news is correct about the stupidity of the American government in considering the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist group, then the Revolutionary Guards will consider the American army to be like Islamic State all around the world particularly in the Middle East,” Jafari said.

Two months ago, the Iranian parliament gave approval for a bill to boost spending on Tehran’s missile programme and the elite Revolutionary Guards in retaliation to new sanctions imposed by the United States.

According to the state broadcaster IRIB, lawmakers overwhelmingly approved the outlines of the bill to “counter America’s terrorist and adventurist actions” as some chanted “Death to America”.
